PMI 2023 Summit – Redefining Project Success
In November, Lizzie (Prodigy’s Project Manager) and I spent the day at the University of Cincinnati attending the 2023 Project Management Institute’s (PMI) Summit focused on redefining project success.
If you haven’t heard of the PMI, here’s a little introduction from their website:
“PMI is the leading authority in project management, committed to advancing the project management profession to positively impact project success. We empower professionals to excel in project management practices through our growing global community, knowledge sharing, and best-in-class certifications—driving positive change in organizations and communities.” Reference -Pmi.org/about
Lizzie and I are both active members and have participated in virtual project management events in the past. This was our first live event, and we were both a little apprehensive about what the experience would be like. Would this be worth spending an entire Saturday learning about project management?
Needless to say, it was. The PMI took over the Linder Center on UC’s campus and provided 2 keynotes and 14 breakout sessions with topics ranging from dealing with project tensions, organizational change management, AI (of course), and how to rescue a project that has gone south. The speakers were from local companies (GE, Kroger, Great American) as well as professors from UC.
Shortly, you will see implementation of the topics we were exposed to – integration of RACI charts into kickoffs, alternate mind map software, and development of SBOMs (software bills of material).
Overall, the experience was definitely worthwhile, and we are looking forward to other upcoming opportunities the Project Management Institute has to offer.
P.S. The boxed lunch was excellent!
