The Unsung Hero of Your Project: The Prodigy Project Manager

Lizzie Wheatley

At Prodigy, we understand that a successful engineering project requires more than just brilliant engineers. It takes a well-oiled machine, with every member playing a crucial role. Today, we’re putting the spotlight on a critical, yet sometimes under-appreciated member of that team: the Project Manager (PM).

From Proposal to Completion: The PM’s Journey

Our PM’s get involved early, even before a project is officially confirmed. They work closely with the business development team to ensure a smooth transition into the solution development phase. This includes setting up internal systems, project scoping through client meetings, and providing support with resource allocation, cost estimations, and proposal reviews.

The Maestro of the Project Symphony

Once a project is underway, the PM becomes the central point of contact for our clients. They’re responsible for creating and maintaining the project’s heartbeat – the schedule and budget. They keep the team focused by prioritizing tasks and ensuring everyone stays on track to achieve the project goals.

Building a Bridge for Success: Tips for Client-PM Collaboration

Here at Prodigy, we believe in fostering strong, transparent relationships with our clients. Here are some tips for building a successful one with your PM:

  • Communication is Key: Keep us informed early and often, especially about deadlines, changing expectations, or scope adjustments. The more we know, the better we can adapt and deliver.
  • Ask Questions, Challenge Assumptions: During the proposal phase, don’t hesitate to ask questions and clarify any uncertainties. We appreciate a collaborative approach to ensure everyone is on the same page.

From Engineer to PM: A Project Management Journey

Lizzie Wheatley, one of our talented PMs, shares her unique path:

“After obtaining a BS in Mechanical Engineering, I cut my teeth in the Aviation and Oil & Gas industries. While I enjoyed the technical aspects, I was drawn to client interaction. When I found myself unofficially managing projects and relishing the challenge, I decided to pursue project management as a career. I obtained my CAPM certification and am currently working towards my PMP.”

Avoiding Common Pitfalls for a Smoother Ride

Lizzie emphasizes the importance of clear communication:

“The biggest hurdle I see is a lack of communication or misalignment of expectations. By openly discussing needs and concerns throughout the project, we can avoid any unwanted surprises.”

The Ideal Client Kick-Off: Setting the Stage for Success

To ensure a seamless project launch, here’s what you, as our client, can bring to the table:

  • Communication preferences and expectations
  • Any critical deadlines or constraints
  • Updates on any changes to assumptions or expectations since the proposal phase
  • A clear identification of client stakeholders and their roles

The PM Life: A Balancing Act

Lizzie sheds light on the joys and challenges of being a PM:

“The best part? The variety! Every project brings new technologies, challenges, and people to collaborate with. It keeps things exciting. The downside? Delivering bad news, whether it’s a schedule slip or a design hurdle.”

Partnering with Prodigy: Your Success Story

Our PMs are dedicated to your project’s success. They are the bridge between your vision and our execution, ensuring a smooth and collaborative journey.
